Welcome

Because Alpha One is New England's largest organization run by and for people with disabilities, our evaluations and recommendations are based on experience and a "common sense" approach to barrier removal and regulatory compliance. While other access consultants may make suggestions on how to meet minimum requirements of the law(s), our recommendations are based on the "usability" of facilities by persons with disabilities and the concept of universal access for all. Our recommendations always include alternative solutions to resolving barriers where they may be more readily achievable and provide the same or equal level of access.

Because Alpha One represents one of New England's largest constituencies of disabled consumers, our opinion(s) on accessibility issues are well respected by the disability community and satisfies 1) ADA Title III regulations' recommendations to involve persons with disabilities in developing barrier removal plans for public accommodations, and 2) Title II requirements for public involvement by interested individuals [or organizations] in programmatic and structural modifications to state and/or local government facilities.

Our accessibility evaluations not only include the investigation of compliance with ADA regulations but also other federal, state and/or local accessibility regulations that apply to the facilities in question. We also incorporate other non-structural recommendations for compliance with the various regulations. Our recommendations developed for the barrier removal strategy are always based on structural feasibility, safety, usage, and overall benefits to disabled and non-disabled end users.

As a recognized leader and trainer in accessibility and regulatory compliance, Alpha One offers first hand experience and instruction to client organizations. While evaluating facilities, we also educate our clients in the basics of accessibility and performing their own physical and programmatic surveys. This instruction helps ensure future compliance with ADA mandated "continuing obligation" provisions for barrier removal by instilling a basic and independent knowledge of accessibility related issues and in structural or non-structural requirements.
