There are many different types of impairments that can interrupt one's ability to speak and be understood by others, which can affect one's ability to work. The causes of speech impairments are diverse. They can be caused by physical impairments, damage to the nerves or part of the brain that controls speech, or disease, such as Parkinson’s disease or ALS.

 

Frustrated by poor quality speech synthesis, Scottish company CereProc, founded in 2005, created text-to-speech solutions for any type of application.  They even famously, helped movie critic Roger Ebert to create a custom version of his voice. Thier voices have character, making them appropriate for a far wider range of applications than traditional text-to-speech systems. The voices sound engaging when reading long documents and web pages.CereVoice, is available for Windows, Mac & Android. Products are very reasonably priced. They can also create custom voices when provided with anywhere from 40 mins to 4hrs of high end audio recordings.
